| Original Home Reading Programs at Rama Central P.S.:
This is a teacher-administered home reading program. The goal is to have each student complete at least 13 minutes of home reading per day, for a total of 1,000 minutes over a two-and-a-half month period. During the first three years of the program, many students read two to four times this amount! The components of the program are as follows:
Timesheets are sent home each Friday and are due back in class the following Friday. During the Spring of 2008, all Grade 2 and 3 students at Rama Central P.S. are participating in "The Great Spring Reading Challenge."
This is a parent-administered home reading program. The goal is to have each child complete at least 12 minutes of home reading per day, for a total of 750 minutes over the summer. During the first three years the program was offered, many students read double this amount! In early-June, we give introductory letters and sign-up sheets to all students in the Primary division. About two-thirds to three-quarters of students usually choose to participate. Just before students leave for their summer vacation, those who signed-up are given everything except the feedback form and certificate. The feedback form is sent home in early-September and certificates are presented at a school assembly in late-September. The components of this program are as follows:
